PAFL Founders’ Cup

A TRIBUTE MATCH IN HONUOR OF THE FOUNDERS

During the 10th Anniversary year of PAFL, the committee decided to honour its’ two founders Peter Stone and Derek Ackary who made Aussie Rules football possible here in the Philippines. From an initial game back in 2004 involving a few men handballing a Sherrin between two soccer goals, to hosting the Asian Championships in 2005, to the creation of the Manila Cup, to the Philippines first international tour in 2012, and then overseeing the Philippine Eagles undefeated ‘Manila International Cup’ campaign in PAFL’s 10th Anniversary year, it was thought that the time had come to play an annual tribute game for the two founding fathers; ‘The Founders’ Cup’.

The day is seen as an opportunity to not only thank ‘Dezza’ and ‘Stoney’ but also all of those that were here in the early years, and those that continue to be the ‘life-blood’ of the club. One of these people of course has been Michael Edge, whose tireless work has made Philippines footy happen on a weekly basis for many years. Edgey is honoured with selecting the player for whom he deems to be best afield, with that player being awarded ‘The Michael Edge Medal’.
