The Philippine Australian Football League (PAFL) recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with a bang, hosting a sold-out Grand Final Luncheon that brought together footy fans, old and new, for a day of thrilling action, delicious food, and good company.
The atmosphere at Flat Planet Work Space was electric from the moment the doors opened. Guests were greeted with big screens showcasing the pre-game excitement, setting the stage for a memorable day. Chef Wade Watson of Bondi & Bourke fame outdid himself with a mouthwatering three-course ribeye steak lunch that left everyone satisfied. The free-flowing Crazy Carabao craft beers and Happy Living wines kept spirits high, with the “Crazy Carabao Piña Colada” emerging as a surprise crowd favorite.
While the Brisbane Lions’ dominant performance in the Grand Final might have left some Sydney Swans supporters a bit disappointed, the camaraderie and lively atmosphere ensured everyone had a great time. Highlights of the day included the presentation of a Life Membership to Matthew Rutter for his 15 years of dedication to the PAFL, and the numerous raffle prizes that saw many lucky winners walk away with some fantastic goodies.
The event wasn’t just about footy and feasting; it was also a chance to reflect on the PAFL’s rich history. Life members Peter Hammon, Winner Santos, and Derek Ackary shared stories and reminisced with past and present players, creating a strong sense of community and connection.
With 65 attendees, the luncheon was a resounding success, raising funds to support the development of local players and grow the sport in the Philippines. The PAFL Grand Final Luncheon proved to be a fitting tribute to 20 years of Aussie Rules passion in the Philippines, and a fantastic start to what promises to be another exciting chapter for the league.
Here’s to the next 20 years!
